Black Dop Wax is a wax with a higher melting temperature than the green dop wax. Recommended for use when greater holding strength is required. Stones have a lesser tendency to move or shift with this wax. Useful during grinding and polishing operations where increased pressure and heat may cause movement of the stone. Melts at 175 degrees Fahrenheit. This price is for a single stick of black dop wax, weighing roughly 1/4 pound.

Choosing between dops:
Dop wax is an adhesive compound that is used in lapidary functions, such as cabbing, carving and the faceting of gem stones. The colour delineates the heat range of the stone being set. Certain stone can't be heated to a high degree, so therefore a lower heat dop wax is required.

The different colours of wax are formed by the varied amounts of shellac used in each color. Thus the higher the temperature or melting point the more brittle the wax. (Please note no type of heat should be applied to any type of opal.)

Brown Dop Wax melts at 145 degrees and is used by most faceters for heat sensitive materials.

Green Dop Wax melts at 150 degrees and is popular as a general all purpose dop.

Red Dop Wax melts at 160 degrees and is also used as a general all purpose dop.

Black Dop Wax Melts at 175 degrees when used by the faceter and is very very brittle.
